Research in Reproductive Medicine

  • Reproductive Medicine Research

Ongoing development and improvement of various genetic abnormality testing methods, research on the genetic mechanisms for reproductive medicine, establishment and treatment research of embryonic stem cell lines, and precise medical research focused on women and children. Regular discussions with clinical physicians and reproductive medicine teams are conducted to strengthen the research and development capabilities of laboratories and ensure sustainable development.

  • Experimental Animal Center

The Experimental Animal Center has been evaluated and assessed on-site by the Taichung City Animal Protection and Health Inspection Office, commissioned by the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, as an accredited institution for animal science applications. It possesses a complete and secure breeding barrier system, including a reverse osmosis animal drinking water supply system and independent ventilated cage (IVC) racks with highly efficient air filtration system. Different feed compositions are provided based on the specific physiological needs of the animals to maintain their health management and minimize the possibility of cross-contamination. The accuracy of quality control tests for embryo culture medium is ensured for mouses embryo experiments, and relevant research in reproductive medicine focusing on mouse animal models is provided to improve pregnancy rates.

    Medical Laboratory Certification

Our Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory, specifically for NGS-based Preimplantation Genetic Screening, has been extended its ISO 15189 Medical Laboratory Accreditation by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF). The initial certification was obtained in 2019, and the latest certificate had been extended for 3 years, from 2022 to 2025.

The successful extension of this medical laboratory certification represents the laboratory’s continuous adherence to strict operational standards and procedures, with attention to detail, providing strong support for in-house embryo screening at Lee Women’s Hospital.

Our Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory utilizes the high-resolution next-generation sequencing (hr-NGS) analysis platform for performing preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) to detect chromosomal abnormalities in embryos. This equipment is only available in a few reproductive institutions, and ISO 15189 Medical Laboratory Accreditation is even rarer.
